Free workshops in Bridlington to help boost confidence of SEND youngsters
The event is for those aged 14 to 25 with special educational needs or disabilities as well as their friends and family
Young people in Bridlington with special educational needs or disabilities are being invited to an event to help boost confidence.
It is free and will be held at the town's Community Hub this Friday (25th February) for those aged 14 to 25 as well as their family and friends.
There will be a range of workshops as part of the 'Get Creative!' event and there will be free cakes and refreshments on arrival.
There will be an opportunity to experience a DJ Skills workshop with some fun ice-breaker activities.
This event is funded by the Dynamix Friends Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund and has the aims of:
• Building up young people’s confidence
• Developing young people’s social skills
• Improving young people’s self-esteem
• Supporting young people’s sense of wellbeing.
• Relieve feelings of social isolation
• Develop relationships
• Build Resilience
The 'Hear Me Out Young Persons' Engagement Group' in Bridlington is involved and Sophie Dixon is from there. She said:
"We want them to build their confidence and get to know us better on the day. We want them to take part in the Get Creative! event to have fun and learn some DJ skills. We would also love for them to come and join our Hear Me Out group. This event will be really accessible for young people with special needs and disabilities and there will be a calm space there for young people also if they need it.
"Come and give it a go and try something new! DJ Methodz is really patience and understanding and makes it fun, and if you just want to sit and watch that’s ok as well."
Amber-Louise Cantwell is also from YPEG and said:
"It help young people get to know different people who have similar situations. This event is also for young people over 18 years old - so it helps others to have the chance to be involved in something fun too.
"The young people in the Hear Me Out Group are going to be helping on the day and saying hi to you all and taking part in the workshops – our group’s slogan is ‘Together we are unstoppable in making positive change happen.’
"Come and join us on the day to find out more about our group and you will also get some free drinks and snacks and an information pack about the group to take home with you."

About the charity KIDS, who run the Hear Me Out Young Persons' Engagement Group (YPEG)
KIDS are a pan disability charity providing specialist support services to disabled children (from birth to 25 years) and their families in local communities across England which includes just under 1,000 families locally in Hull and parts of the East Riding of Yorkshire, providing life-changing opportunities to help them achieve their aspirations and live a full and happy life.

The Hear Me Out YPEG meet for in-person sessions at the Community Hub two Friday evening’s per month (6pm – 8pm) where they have food, take part in some fun activities and work with services in Bridlington and the surrounding areas within East Yorkshire to help young people with special education needs and/or disabilities (SEND) have their voices heard about the things that matter to them.
