Yorkshire Coast mental health charity reminds people they are there

A mental health charity on the Yorkshire Coast is promoting the work it does and reminding people that they are here for them, ahead of World Mental Health day.
Hull and East Yorkshire Mind will be using this weekend’s World Mental Health Day on 10th October to raise awareness.
The charity says 1 in 4 people will experience some form of mental health problem in any given year – and says they know that because of the current Covid-19 outbreak, there are many more people that need help, but are perhaps finding it difficult to talk and get some support. The charity says recent ONS figures have found that, since the pandemic began, twice as many adults in Britain are reporting symptoms of depression.
Emma Dallimore, Chief Executive at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, said:
“We all experience mental health, sometimes our mental health is good, and sometimes it is poor – on World Mental Health Day - and any other day, we want to let people know that we are here for them.”
“This year has been particularly hard for everyone, not just those experiencing poor mental health. It’s important that we all remember to look after our mental health, and look out for the people close to us - it can be as simple as someone knowing there are people out there who care, that can help and make a difference. We urge people to contact us for information, advice or support should they need it.”
Hull and East Yorkshire Mind says it supports over 5000 people a year with their mental health. They offer a range of support including an information line, talking therapies for adults and young people, as well as specialist support helping people to find employment. Back in April 2020, they announced that they had extended the hours of their Information and Advice Line to 24 hours a day to support local people who may be finding things difficult during the current Covid-19 crisis.
