Rise In Covid-19 Cases On Yorkshire Coast 'Nowhere Near As Serious As Other Areas' Says MP

The MP for Filey says a rise in the number of coronavirus cases on the Yorkshire Coast is nowhere near as serious as it is in other areas.
Kevin Hollinrake has been reacting to a 'major incident' being declared in North Yorkshire because of a recent surge in infections.
The Borough of Scarborough has been added to the government's watch list as an 'area of concern', with a rise in cases over the last two weeks, especially in Whitby.
Kevin said:
"Whereas Bolton has got I think about 400 cases per 100,000 over the last seven days. North Yorkshire has 20 cases per 100,000.
"So we have kept this under control but it has increased as it was 500,000 only a couple of weeks ago so we have to be vigilant.
"In this area, we've done extremely well and the tourist season is kind of moving past that now and that will have had some contributory effect.
"So I think we can manage this as long as we're all disciplined.
"The incidents are relatively low across North Yorkshire. There's bound to be certain areas, like Scarborough borough, where there's been a rise in incidents, but generally in this area we've managed it well.
"So I don't think we need to fear any specialised lockdown measures around here but we've got to be vigilant and keep an eye on it."
Kevin said he is against a national lockdown:
"If we all hide ourselves away in our back bedroom and never speak to anybody ever again, we'd probably never catch the Coronavirus. Do you want to live like that? I don't.
"The reality is most of us will never catch the Coronavirus, but those who do will probably not have any severe consequences from it."
