People are being reminded that there are warm spaces as a cold snap hits the Yorkshire Coast.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is now in place with temperatures going into the minuses at times.

Delia Prudence owns The Art Room in Scarborough, where you can be creative for free on Fridays, and she said: "I know there's a lot of people out there that want to come and meet new people but are finding it hard. There are people out there that want to start learning how to draw or paint but can't afford the materials because they are expensive. We've had a lot of our regular customers donate materials to us.

"We also have people who come and knit and we even have some people who just come in for a cuppa. It's a creative space but it's also a place where people can talk to each other, meet new friends and even think about doing something creative.

"We're just there to help anybody who are fed up of being lonely and also to keep warm. We provide refreshments, we've got facilities and people can come and do absoutely anything they want to do. It's open all day for people on a Friday and we'd like to keep this going all year round.

"People are coming, meeting new friends and it's great to see. We have a lady that comes and she lives in appalling conditions but she comes out, she loves it beacuse she can come somewhere where she feels safe, talk to people and she meets new people as well.

"It's very, very good for your mindset, your anxiety and anything like that. I just want to be able to help people as much as I can with the tools that I have available to me and that's space and materials."
