Businesses in the Borough of Scarborough are set to get their bills for the Yorkshire Coast Business Improvement District scheme.

The Council is responsible for collecting the money which has caused concern for some of its members.

Heather Phillips, Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group at the authority, said: "Scarborough Borough Council is responsible for distributing the Covid grants and then in two months we'll then be asking for some of it back, so I just wanted to make sure that we're going to get a bad reputation from local businesses. I think some of them still think it's us that collect that money and keep it.

"At what point will the Section 18 notice be brought into consideration? Because I believe that has to be done and I think we need to try and address all the concerns of local businessmen who are having to pay this very unpopular tax which is making us very unpopular as councillors.

Janet Jefferson, Cabinet Member for Corporate Resources, said: "From April, the Council will be issuing D-BID invoice reminders. In May, this will be followed by final notice demands and summaries. I can also confirm that we as a council have paid our dues."
