Some people in the Borough of Scarborough should begin to have internet again following an outage earlier today.

It affects several providers like TalkTalk, Sky, Openreach and BT.

Earlier, Openreach says the drop in internet affected approximately 10,000 properties in the Scarborough area.

Now, its engineers have fixed the problem on their end.

An Openreach spokesperson said:

“We had to replace a fault part in our Scarborough exchange this afternoon, which was causing disruption to broadband services in the local area. Engineers quickly identified the fault and replaced the piece of equipment that was causing the problem. People should now be able to get back online. We’re sorry for any disruption caused.”

However, TalkTalk and BT have not updated their websites yet with the information on whether or not the internet has been fixed for their customers.

TalkTalk last updated its website at 2pm today saying:

"We'd like to apologise for the inconvenience and assure you that our engineers are working to restore service as a priority."

BT's website said:

"We’re really sorry but we’ve got a problem in the Scarborough area, which means that some of our customers will be having trouble getting online or potentially using their digital voice service. We’re trying to fix the problem as quickly as we can."

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group said:

"Services have been disrupted at some local GP practices due to the BT exchange outage in the Scarborough Area on Thursday: Brook Square, Central Healthcare, The Filey Surgery, Hackness Road, and Scarborough Medical Group.

The practices are working through booked appointments for Thursday, and some patients may also have to wait longer when calling their practice. We are working to normalise services as soon as possible following the exchange outage and are very sorry for any disruption.

In the meantime in case of an urgent medical need please contact 111, or if an emergency 999."
