Women on the Yorkshire Coast are being advised to go and get their breast cancer screening done.

Charity 'Breast Cancer Now' says many have missed an appointment because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It's concerned over the number of women caught up in the backlog now that services have resumed.

Dr Nigel Wells, Clinical Lead at Humber, Coast and Vale said:

"We're trying to get out there the message that breast cancer screenings have resumed and it's safe to go there.

They've put in a lot of infection control measures to ensure patients and staff safety.

We've got static units which are ones in hospitals or around sites like that, and we also have mobile units that go around our communities.

So we're really pushing out the message that screenings are open for business.

We're trying very hard across all our screenings and everything we're wanting to do to try and tackle all the long waits and get through this as quickly as possible.

If we can catch cancers early, we can cure those and that's really what screenings are about, is coming forward, being screened and making sure everything's alright."
