A charity that helps the elderly and elderly disabled in Whitby is issuing advice as temperatures are expected to peak today.

Trustee Jane Bristow said: "Obviously with the weather as it is, it's important that these people stay comfortable and we can give help. We can give them the warnings; we can say keeping drinking, we've got fans, we can keep everybody nice and cool. The people who can't come in, we can also go out to them and we also have a few people who can't come out to us so we ring them.
"It's a lot of health information that they need because they may not know. They may not have a daughter, son or a neighbour that can call in, so a nice friendly phone call from us to say 'it's going to be really hot today, stay inside and drink plenty of water' it helps.
"Most of us are old enough to remember 1976 when it was really hot, so we do remember that you do need to keep cool, you do need to keep drinking, keep wet cloths to keep mopping their brows and stay inside, maybe draw the curtains to keep the house cool and things like that.
"It's very important that they don't feel alone so we do have regular phone calls to people who can't get to us and we do keep in touch, particularly with these last couple of years, we've all been isolated and it's been so important to keep in contact with people so they don't feel alone."
