The owner of a new bar planned to open in the heart of Whitby has applied for permission to sell alcohol at the venue.

Earlier this year, Teesside businessman Paolo Arceri transform the former Youth Shack building in New Quay Road into a venue for residents and visitors.

The youth club, which was home to the Youth Shack, has been vacant since January 2019 and is located above a public toilet.

Mr Arceri, who runs Macy Brown’s cocktail bars in Middlesbrough and Guisborough was granted planning permission by Scarborough Council to transform the premises last month.

A licence application has now been submitted to the council to allow the premises, which is referred to as Youth Shack (Rafters), to serve alcohol. The application has been lodged by Sunshine Leisure Limited.

In the licence application, it proposes to run the bar from 10am until 1am from Monday to Sunday, with permission to sell alcohol and play music requested.

The application is now out to public consultation with a closing date of Tuesday November 17.
