Valley Road in Scarborough to close until December
Valley Road in Scarborough will be shut into December due to bridge works.
A Scarborough town centre road will be shut into December due to bridge works.
Contractors carrying out a £2 million repainting of Valley Bridge on behalf of North Yorkshire County Council are taking down scaffolding from the structure, which means Valley Road will now be closed until December 11.
Diversions are in place at the Aquarium Top roundabout and at Grosvenor Road.
During the work to the bridge, the existing paint surfaces have been removed before contractors applied a new three-coat paint system in the bridge’s classic dark green to protect its structure.
In total over the last six years North Yorkshire County Council will have spent nearly £4 million on the bridge’s first complete refurbishment since 1933 when the bridge, which first opened in 1865, was rebuilt to accommodate the increase in motorised traffic.
