Students at York University have been learning how to protect each other from crimes such as sexual violence and spiking.

The charity Egalitarian's been training up those in charge of clubs and societies - ahead of the official start of the new term.

Elyssia O'Neill helped set up it up and says it's about raising awareness:

"So it's really important that we're getting people early and we're training people not only on being able to know what spiking is so that people don't do it themselves, but teaching people to be effective allies."

"We look at response techniques as well and we're looking at how we can be anti victim blaming how we can be victim lead and trauma informed and how we deal with these kind of incidents."

"We also look at the little known things about sexual violence and spiking, such as the most common substance of spiking being actually alcohol and how people don't know that."
