Traffic into Scarborough should improve soon says North Yorkshire County Council
It's after a gas mains problem has meant unexpected roadworks on Filey Road.
We've been finding out why Scarborough traffic has been gridlocked this week and how long that will last.
There have been long queues, mainly heading into town from the south, on the two routes drivers use.
Planned roadworks are taking place on Seamer Road, but more works weren't expected on Filey Road.
They've been caused by a gas mains problem earlier this week.
North Yorkshire Highways Area Manager, Richard Marr, says he hopes the emergency works will be finished by the middle of next week, but that they're in the hands of the gas company.
He said:
"All I can ask is patience. We are talking to the gas board to find out how much longer they're going to be. At the moment they're uncertain.
If people could stagger their journeys a bit, to try and miss the peaks. Certainly my staff are involved as well. One of my engineers was stuck in a queue for 40 minutes himself.
So, we do certainly recognise there is an issue and we're doing what we can to try and lessen the impact."
