Tonight thousands of people will flock to Filey and the North York Moors for one of the biggest internationally renowned events.

Trackrod Rally Yorkshire is back and takes place in Filey and Dalby Forest until tomorrow.

Keith McGhie is from there and said: "We've got a capacity of 180 cars which means we've got 360 competitioprs to start with, a driver and a co-driver and then you've got all the mechanics, people who'll service the car, mums and dads come along to provide food and that's of course in addition to spectators.

"A lot of those will be coming from the lcoal area anyway but 50 percent of them will come from other parts of the country and in the case of the rally faavourite, even from France. Bed and breakfasts will be hard to come by in the Filey area and there's always people stopping for a bite to eat.

"The drivers just seem to love something about the Yorkshire forests. One of them was quoted as saying 'there's nothing like the sound of an escort roaring through Dalby Forest at 100mph in the dark at night.

"You wouldn't know how many people you were surrounded by in the forest until this glare of spotlights came from the distance and illuminate you. You'd look round and then all of a sudden from a general murmur, you become aware that other people were there and you'd have hundreds of people in the forest around you that you hadn't really appreciated.

"We've only really got time for 180 cars bceause they all go off at minute intervals. If you're spectating then it's three hours worth of cars coming past you. It's just reached a stage where it ticks along nicely every year and within two days of entries at the beginning of August, we'd reached not only the 180 capacity but we also had quite a hefty reserve list."
