Under the High level of restrictions bars and restaurants can only serve alcohol with a “substantial” meal.
People are also not allowed to mix indoors with people outside of their household or support bubbles.
Since the restrictions have come into force there has been some confusion nationally about what can and can not be done by a business, with Government ministers last week sparking a debate about whether a scotch egg was a substantial meal.
Scarborough Council has now written to bars and restaurants, some of which may be serving food for the first time, to clarify the situation.
Jonathan Bramley, Scarborough Council’s Environment and Regulation manager said:
“We are writing to local hospitality businesses to clarify what the new tier two regulations mean for them.
“This includes advice on what constitutes a substantial meal and, for businesses thinking of serving meals for the first time, what facilities and procedures they must have in place to produce food safely before they begin.

The tier restrictions could change on December 16 depending on an area’s infection rate and other factors.
Scarborough’s infection rate is currently above the national average.
