Major route through North Yorkshire blocked after heavy snowfall
Police have urged drivers to avoid the roads after cars were left stranded earlier

Drivers have been urged to avoid a major route on the North Yorkshire coast after heavy snowfall left it impassable.
Vehicles were stranded on the A171 between Scarborough and Whitby earlier, while the A169 from Pickering to Whitby has also been impacted.
Police tweeted: "The A171 from Scarborough to Whitby is completed blocked by snow and stranded vehicles. Many roads around Whitby are also affected."
"Please plan your journey before you set out, and take extra care if you're on the roads this morning."
It comes after freezing temperatures across North Yorkshire, with a yellow weather warning for ice in place until Friday.
