Serious fire in Scarborough

It happened at a commercial property in the town centre last night.

Several fire crews have attended an incident in Scarborough town centre.

Six engines were at the scene of a serious fire at a commercial property in King Street on Newborough last night.

The fire was in a ground floor souvenir shop with flats above.

Crews gained entry into the shop and put the fire out within a rear store room. All persons in the flats above were accounted for.

After extinguishing the fire, crews checked neighboring properties for fire spread and ventilated the building.

Crews used 9 breathing apparatus, 3 hose reel jets, 3 thermal imaging cameras, small tools, lighting, door enforcer and radios at the incident.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

Police were also in attendance and the road was closed.

Nobody's reported to have been injured.

Crews from Scarborough, Filey. Malton, Sherburn and Pickering were all involved.
