Scarborough's Coronavirus rate drops again
However, the borough's seven-day infection rate is still higher than the average for North Yorkshire.
Scarborough’s coronavirus infection rate has fallen, as the borough gets ready for the Easter weekend.
Scarborough’s seven-day infection rate, per 100,000 people, now stands at 44, down from 48 where it had been for two consecutive days.
The borough’s rate remains above the average for North Yorkshire, but is dropping further below the England average.
Ahead of the four-day weekend, warnings have been issued to residents and visitors to the coast to not let their guard down.
North Yorkshire’s director of Public Health, Louise Wallace, said:
“Many of us are eager to take advantage of the easing of restrictions to get out into the open air.
“The opportunity to do so, and to meet limited friends and family, is good for our mental and physical wellbeing, but we must behave safely and responsibly.
“While there is no limit on how far you can travel, we’re asking people to use their common sense to consider what is appropriate.
“Infection rates are still too high. Unnecessary social mixing will spread the virus and undo everyone’s hard work. Let’s keep going, so that we can continue to unlock summer.
“And remember, we cannot meet anyone from another household indoors. In the Government’s road map, this won’t be allowed until May 17 at the earliest.”
Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey over the bank holiday weekend, for anyone with symptoms to get tested.
