Scarborough YMCA has partially closed after a crack was found in concrete, amid worries over unsafe material used in schools.

The former school site, which was built in the 1960s, is now being reviewed by a professional.

In a statement, the YMCA said: "At this time, YMCA Theatre is open for productions and Twilight’s production is going ahead as planned.

"All other activities are to be considered cancelled at this moment until we get further updates."

Meanwhile, Scalby School near Scarborough remains partially closed, after RAAC was potentially found there.

Downing Street said hundreds more schools could be affected by problems with reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac).

Rishi Sunak said 95% of England's 22,000 schools were not affected, leaving open the possibility that around 1,100 could have issues.

The Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "I wouldn't characterise it in quite that way.

"I think the Prime Minister was providing reassurance to parents, pupils and schools that the vast majority - we believe more than 95% won't be affected.

"As you heard from the Education Secretary this morning, we expect the numbers to be in the hundreds, not thousands.

"While we are still waiting on schools to return their surveys and confirm their specific situations we can't be more definitive."
