300 new school vacancies filled in Borough of Scarborough since 2018
It's part of the North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Area project
Over 300 new school vacancies on the North Yorkshire Coast have been filled since 2018 as part of the Opportunity Area project.
It is aimed at supporting ambition and social mobility across Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.
Richard Benstead, Programme Director, says there is a focus on bringing in teachers from outside the area:
"It's to make sure we've got the best of the local teaching talent that's already aware of the issues but also really attracting people to come to the borough to live and to work and to really make that impact on schools and children.
"We advertise all these posts but then also we put a lot of content around why you should want to come and live and work in Scarborough, Whitby or Filey and how fantastic the schools are and the opportunities to really change the lives of children and young people.
"That's where we know that there's a national set of challenges around recruiting to these posts. So it's mostly subjects like maths and science in secondary school and then also some leadership positions in primary schools and we've been doing this for a number of years."
