Scarborough warned to stick to the rules
The Chief Executive of North Yorkshire County Council says he doesn't want to go backwards.
Residents in Scarborough have been warned that they must stick to the rules, as the the roadmap out of lockdown continues to move forward.
On Monday, primary school children returned to the classroom with secondary schools beginning to stagger their return.
People are now also able to meet up with one person from another household outside once again.
In a message to residents last night, North Yorkshire County Council chief executive, Richard Flinton, urged people to continue to abide by the lockdown regulations.
He said:
“We must play our part by sticking to the rules, staying local, washing hands, wearing facemasks when we leave our homes, and keeping a two-metre social distance.
“We must remember that the road out of lockdown depends on data, not dates. If we want to go forwards we need to remain vigilant and stick to the rules.
“How hard would it be, now we can see that light at the end of the tunnel, to have to go backwards because we became complacent and let down our guard? It doesn’t bear thinking about.”
The warning came as the seven day infection rate, per 100,000 people in Scarborough, rose slightly to 31, up one on yesterday.
The borough is still averaging five new cases every day.
The average infection rate in England is now 59 per 100,000, while in North Yorkshire as a whole, it is 40.
Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this weekend, for anyone with symptoms to get tested.
