Walkers to tackle 'Scarborough Three Peaks' today for Saint Catherine's
It's the charity's brand new 18k sponsored walk
A Yorkshire Coast charity is holding a 'Three Peaks Challenge' today but with a difference.
The event to raise money for St Catherine's will see people take on three big climbs but they are all in Scarborough.
Scarborough Castle, Oliver's Mount and Jacob's Mount are the ones they will be tackling, over an 18k course.
Susan Stephenson is from Saint Catherine's and she said: "We've got such lovely scenery around Scarborough and we're doing a route that takes in all of those and it starts and finishes at the hospice. It'll be around 18k which is just over 11 miles.
"It's been lovely actually because it's a brand new event for us. We've never tried it before so it was just to see what people's reactions would be and it's been fantastic. We set it at 100 places and because it's a guided walk, we needed to do it in smaller groups and have some volunteers and guides looking after people throughout the route.
"With this new one it's very up and down and the name 'Three Peaks' gives it away that it's not all on the flat. Some of it is quite challenging and it's like off-roading through forested areas and more rural bits as well where we're not actually on pathways.
"With stops and everything, it'll probably take around five and six hours. It's a lot of walking. It's a full day. We're hoping for good weather but whatever happens, I think everybody will have a brilliant day."
