Scarborough's Street Angels say they are there to help during night times.

The volunteers are urging people to stay safe this winter, particularly if the weather gets worse.

Brian Ward, Scarborough Street Angel Co-ordinator, said: "We go out Saturday nights to help out to help the night time economy. We're a voluntary agency that works alongside the police and Scarborough Borough Council to help people who may be vulnerable but to also be there as ambassadors for the town as well.

"There's always the case where there are those who may take it too far, drink too much, whether they're out partying or celebrating. A lot of it is just helping those people which allows the police and ambulance service to deal with more urgent cases across the town.

"Just recently we helped a young man and the place that he was staying with unfortunately it was his friend who ended up assaulting him. He was unable to get back to his hometown, he didn't have the money with him at the time and so we were able to help him get his stuff at the flat, with the help of the police, and also to be able to let him stay at our headquarters for the night.

"I think just as winter comes, we're obviously with weather conditions and things like that, that can cause a big problem for people that are coming out. We're just asking people to stay safe and if they need help, we're there for them on the streets and to have a great time leading up to Christmas."

He says they are always looking for volunteers. Anyone interested can contact Kingdom Faith Yorkshire on their website or email Brian directly at streetangels.bw@gmail.com
