Scarborough's Salvation Army event boosts Ukraine relief effort

A tabletop and reverse car boot sale in Scarborough organised by the Salvation Army has raised £1175 to help with relief in Ukraine.
It was held at the charity's Citadel on Alma Parade on Saturday.
Major Stephen Noble is from there and said: "We’re delighted so many supported us and helped raise a fantastic amount. The public has been generous in their support of the Army for many years in Scarborough."
Every penny raised will help the Salvation Army’s humanitarian work in Ukraine, Russia and the Baltic states as the crisis deepens.
Youth leader Josh Barker organised the volunteers who planned and ran the sale. At the same time, another team provided refreshments, including homemade cakes and pastries in the Army’s coffee shop.
Major Noble said Scarborough’s support showed how people have responded to the plight of the Ukrainians and the millions of refugees.
He added: "As we watch or read about the unfolding events, many of us feel pretty helpless in what we can do to help.
"But this was one way we could do so, and the people of Scarborough came through our doors in good numbers.
"They were saying ‘we support Ukraine and the Salvation Army’s work in helping so many people as they experience desperate times.'
"We thank members of the public for their kindness and generosity."
