Scarborough Borough Council has received close to £500,000 to help those who are homeless in the area.

This is the third pot of funding the Council has been given this year regarding the subject.

Andrew Rowe head of housing Scarborough Council explained how this money will be spent.

"We bid for this funding in partnership with Beyond Housing, its paying for the capital costs to enable them to acquire units of accommodation."

"This is a housing first model, they act as a landlord, they are provided with accomadation and support from mental health, drug and alcohol service to help them sustain the tenancy."

The Scarborough-based project aims to identify the most vulnerable people whose complex life circumstances and needs are preventing them from finding a home on the same-day basis as everyone else, often because they need extra support.

Alongside housing, the project team will provide support and guidance about many things, and the reduction of anti-social behaviour and criminal activity – all of which can be barriers to sustaining a tenancy and can limit employment prospects.
