Scarborough's MP says he is looking forward to the town hosting the Armed Forces Day National Event.

It is now just four days until tens of thousands of people are expected to join in the celebrations.

Parades, air displays and demonstrations will all feature in Saturday's showcase.

Sir Robert Goodwill said: "I'm very proud that Scarborough was chosen for Armed Forces Day and it's been a long time coming. It's been postponed for two years now but it's coming and I think we'll be making up for lost time. We've already yesterday had the raising of the Armed Forces flag delivered by HMS Brocklesby.

"The Red Arrows are just amazing. If we get a clear blue sky, it's just unbelievable what they can do. They've got to be the very best in the world in terms of that display that they put on.

"On Saturday we're just going to see such an awesome array of military hardware and personnel. I think it gives us the opportunity to show how proud we are of our Armed Forces and how Scarborough is the ideal location because we've got that wonderful, natural amphitheatre space.

"The RAF Typhoon display, you can't just hear the noise of those jet engines, you can feel the vibrations that fills the air and that's probably one of the most spectacular, awesome things that can happen, that plane can almost sit stationary on its tail giving the power of its engines and then go up vertically in the air."
