A Scarborough man has been jailed for more than six years for a 'vicious' Christmas Day assault which left the victim with life-changing injuries.
A Scarborough man has been jailed for more than six years for a 'vicious' Christmas Day assault which left the victim with life-changing injuries.
On 25 December 2018, Grant Farquhar attacked a man in a property on North Marine Road, hitting him in the head several times with a hammer.
The victim managed to get outside, and was able to flag down a North Yorkshire Police officer who was on patrol nearby. He had three large cuts to his head and was covered in blood.
Further officers arrived at the scene, and Farquhar was located and arrested a short distance away.
Farquhar, 47, of North Marine Road, Scarborough, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He pleaded guilty, and at York Crown Court on Monday 10th May 2021, he was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison.
DC Philip Giblin, of North Yorkshire Police, said:
“This was a violent, unprovoked attacked on Christmas Day which left the victim with very serious injuries.
“The victim has shown tremendous courage throughout the case, and was committed to seeking justice for the assault.
“This case involved a shocking level of violence, and it is right that Farquhar has received a significant custodial sentence as a result.”
