A Scarborough hotel and restaurant has donated nearly £1,000 to a local charity that supports people in need.
The donations have been raised in two special fundraising events at Chapel House Hotel & Restaurant in South Cliff.
A number of people were invited to enjoy a taster menu at its newly-renamed No.28 Restaurant and to make contributions to benefit the Rainbow Centre.
The first event, which was held before the new lockdown, raised £408 for the charity - and a second event after the easing of the lockdown, has raised £540.
It was attended by about 50 guests including business people who enjoyed a dozen festive dishes created by well-known executive chef Oliver Jones.
Andrew Wyatt, who runs the Chapel House, with wife Mica, said:
"They were both wonderful evenings and we would like to thank everyone for their donations.
"It has also helped to avoid any waste on good quality food from our menu.
"The second event was a chance to show that despite covid, the restaurant is now back up and running.
"Thank you to our wonderful and loyal customers for supporting us in these uncertain times."
The property dates from the mid-Victorian era and has a pre-Raphaelite chapel with a consecrated altar and stained glass windows by the leading designer Charles Eamer Kemp.
"We are investing in the community and aim to show that local businesses can pull through the current challenges to maintain quality and much-needed independently-run accommodation provision and dining options," said Andrew.
The donations are a big boost for the Rainbow Centre, which was established in 1997 and supports more than 500 people per week as a food and clothing bank, and with other supporting services.
The centre, which is part of the mission of St Mary’s and Holy Apostles, is based at Castle Road. Last Christmas it distributed 900 food parcels, presents for nearly 400 children, and 218 adults and children attended Christmas dinner - with the help of donations, McCain Foods, Stepney Hill Farm and Yorkshire Coast College.
The Chapel House was previously the Yorkshire House of Rest for Ladies, for whom philanthropist Miss Mary Craven had the small private chapel built, to the style of the neighbouring St Martin's Church - which she also commissioned.
The church was designed by the giants of Victorian design and art George Frederick Bodley, with work by William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Ford Madox Brown, some of whom were involved in building the chapel.
The Wyatt family has fully-refurbished the building since taking it over in March 2015.
