Scarborough Hospitality Association says it has been slow for the industry as a whole this winter.

It has been reflecting on this year as businesses and households are being affected by the cost of living crisis.

Lynn Jackson, vice-president of the group, said: "I think it's done really well this year up to when people started worrying about money coming into winter. We had a nice summer which always helps and Scarborough was super busy and it still is to a certain degree but come October, it seemed to fall off a precipice at that point so the end of the year has been very slow.

"Having things to bring people into the town, like the Sparkle, actually did bring people into the town. We had people staying with us because that was on and it was something to do in November, so doing events that are free where there's something interesting to look at, hear or see always bring people in.

"The people who love Scarborough come back repeatedly. Some are coming once a month and staying a few days. We need the positivity. We need people to come and think about enjoying the coast. It's not just Scarborough, we're in such a beautiful spot in the world and there's so much to do on this whole coastline and in-land as well but just come and experience it. You'll fall in love like we have."
