Tonight's annual Goldwings Light Parade on Scarborough seafront has been cancelled.

It's held each September, to mark the end of the Summer season and riders come from all around the UK to ride along the South and North Bays.

It's also to raise funds for charity and draws crowds of thousands.

But after the announcement of the death of the Queen, the event has been cancelled out of repsect.

A joint message from the organisers of the Goldwings event and Scarborough Borough Council was released late yesterday afternoon.

“After careful discussion and consideration, we have decided to cancel the Goldwings event.

“Given the magnitude of Thursday’s news about the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it does not seem appropriate to go ahead with the event as planned.

“The nation is in shock and is mourning for the loss of a much loved Sovereign and it is important we pay our proper respects at this very sad time.”
