Scarborough and Filey police to continue anti-drug patrols over New Year
It's part of on-going efforts to tackle drug-related crime and to increase safety in the night time economy
Police in Scarborough and Filey say they will continue to do anti-drug patrols over the New Year period and beyond.
It is part of on-going efforts to tackle drug-related crime and to increase safety in the night time economy.
Officers were out during the weekend before Christmas with police dog Charlie the springer spaniel.
Sergeant Vicky Quigley is from Filey and Eastfield Police and said: "Admittedly we don't always have the drugs dog with us as that's quite a specialist skill, but we are looking to get that out more in the future but certainly over the festive period officers will still be out and about. If people have any concerns about anybody with drugs, please let us know. We'll be linking in with door staff and the staff at licensed premises.
"We do tend to see a little bit of an increase certainly in the lead-up especially on that weekend because it's traditionally known as 'Builder's Friday' which is tradtionally when all the builders used to finish and a lot of people used to go out on that weekend. We do certainly see a bit of an increase and then we'll see a bit of a drop off afterwards as well.
"Keep safe. Drugs can have a massive effect on people, not only the people themselves but their families and if you have any concerns there's plenty of agencies that will offer you support likewise, you can always come to the police to report any drug use. We're also working closely with our partners at Scarborough Borough Council and its licensing team so you can approach them too."
