Leader of Scarborough Council expecting an 'influx' of tourists this summer
That's if restrictions are lifted in line with the government's 'roadmap' out of lockdown
There's hope Scarborough, Filey and Whitby can attract plenty of tourists this summer.
That's what the leader of Scarborough Council tells us he'd like to see.
Steve Siddons says Scarborough town centre will be getting a revamp soon.
We asked him what's going to change:
"Whether it's from making our high streets greener, or putting artwork up on empty shop windows, or simply making sure people can access digital wi-fi.
"People may be aware of us winning a large sum of money recently from the government through the towns fund.
"Soon enough, people are going to start seeing those benefits appear in the street.
"We want this to be beneficial for both residents and tourists.
"We're all still facing this difficulty of going abroad, so I think we will see a big influx of people coming to places like Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.
"We want visitors to have a safe and enjoyable time, but it's crucial that residents are kept safe as well."
