Scarborough Borough Council has voted once more for who will be the next Mayor of the coastal authority.

Labour’s Cllr Eric Broadbent will take on the role for the second time, having been the borough’s first citizen in 2004/5.

Cllr Roxanne Murphy of the Independent Group will be the deputy.

The pair had been due to don the ceremonial chains of office back in May but the handover was scrapped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

They will replace outgoing Mayor and deputy Cllr Hazel Lynskey and Cllr Roberta Swiers who will have served for two years, should the handover finally take place as scheduled at the council’s annual meeting in May.

At a meeting of the full council today Cllrs Broadbent and Murphy were unanimously approved for the offices for the second time by councillors.
