Scarborough's Coronavirus infection rate down again
The borough's seven-day rate is now below the average for England.
Scarborough’s Covid-19 infection rate has fallen below the national average, as the second lockdown is set to end on Wednesday.
The borough’s seven-day infection rate has dropped to 146 cases per 100,000 people, down from 330 this time last week and 570 two weeks ago.
Over the last seven days, the borough averaged 23 cases a day - a drop from 51 seven days ago.
It means that Scarborough’s infection rate has dropped below the average for England, which is now 160.
The borough also no longer has the highest infection rate in the county, having been overtaken by Selby, which now stands at 155.
Scarborough is above the North Yorkshire average, which has fallen to 120.
The borough’s overall total number of cases since the start of the pandemic is now 2,865 - after 57 new cases were added from Friday and the weekend.
On Wednesday, the borough, along with the rest of North Yorkshire and York, will be placed into the Tier 2 High Alert restrictions, which limit household mixing and only allow pubs and restaurants to serve alcohol with a “substantial” meal.
Today, a mobile testing facility will be at Whitby’s Marina Car Park on Langborne Road, before visiting Filey Country Park tomorrow and Scarborough’s Seamer Road park and ride site on Wednesday.
Scarborough’s walk-in coronavirus testing site at William Street Coach Park is also offering testing seven days a week, from 8am until 8pm.
