Scarborough Coronavirus infection rate drops below 300

Scarborough’s infection rate has fallen below 300, after 17 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

The borough’s seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people is now 296, down from 311 yesterday.

Two weeks ago, on November 11, Scarborough’s infection rate stood at 611, the second-highest in England.

Over the last seven days, the borough averaged 46 cases a day - down from more than 90 at its peak.

With details on which areas will be placed into which Tier set to be announced tomorrow, the gap between Scarborough’s infection rate and the North Yorkshire and England average is remaining steady.

The average for the county is now 196, with the national average slightly higher at 207.

The decision on what tier an area will be placed into will take into account a number of factors, including the infection rate, hospital admissions and capacity and the spread of the virus among different age groups.

Today, a mobile testing facility will be at Scarborough’s Seamer Road park and ride site.

Scarborough’s walk-in coronavirus testing site at William Street Coach Park is also offering testing, seven days a week, from 8am until 8pm.

Appointments must be booked in advance.
