A Scarborough cafe is to try once again to expand its balcony which would have given more customers a chance to enjoy views over the town’s harbour.

Gillian Partridge, of the Lookout on the Pier, had applied to Scarborough Borough Council for the changes to the building.

Located on Scarborough’s Grade II listed West Pier, the café currently has a small balcony but Ms Partridge hopes to increase its size so it comes out further.

Permission was first sought for the work last year but that scheme was withdrawn after four objections were received from members of the public.

Mick Paxton, the architect for Mrs Partridge, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that a new scheme for listed building consent had now been sent to Scarborough Council which would address the issues with the previous application.

The original Lookout café was converted in 2019 and had provision for seating within the café and also on the existing balcony overlooking the harbour.
