Businesses in Scarborough are being urged to dress their shop windows up in a festive way as part of a competition.

It has been organised by Janet Jefferson who is the President of the town's Chamber of Trade and Commerce.

She along with Shirley Smith, President of Scarborough Hospitality Association and Anita Briton of Nic Nacs, an independent retailer, will be judges and it will commence on Tuesday 13th December at 3.30pm.

Janet said: "It's a very highly competitive event breaking down into many seperate categories like large stores and small stores. Many independent stores are divided as well such as hairdressers, barbers, chemists, emporiums, most original entry, captive windows, animated windows, name it and we have a category.

"You just have to decorate your window, you don't have to inform us that you've done it. As judges, we will walk around all the main streets; Aberdeen Walk, St. Thomas Street, St. Nicholas Street, Eastborough, Newborough, Westborough, Falsgrave, Ramshill and Dean Road. We're covering virtually all of the shopping areas.

"Please, please help us and keep your lights on from 3.30pm on Tuesday so we can take photos we need and do the judging.

"We will follow up on Wednesday night at a similar time, make a decision and then announce the winners. We'll do a presentation the week commencing 19th of December."
