The leader of Scarborough Council says his staff have been working 'constantly' to make sure local businesses survive the pandemic.

We've been speaking to Steve Siddons about life over the last year.

He tells us his colleagues have been working non-stop:

"Staff have worked seven days a week to get these business grants out.

"Up to now, Scarborough Borough Council's distributed £90 million worth of grants to local businesses.

"We know how important these funds have been, and we've helped to facilitate that."

Mr. Siddons went on to explain what other tasks his staff have been occupied with:

"I think we've done things like been part of patrols, we've checked that other businesses are adhering to the rules and helped to keep businesses open which are allowed to do so.

"We've also employed Covid marshals, who've been out supporting the police, in an effort to keep as many people safe from this virus as possible."
