A Scarborough business leader says he's hopeful the new variant of Coronavirus won't cause too many problems for the hospitality and retail sectors.

Measures were reintroduced after the discovery of the Omicron variant.

There have been concerns about cancellations due to the new findings.

Members of the South Bay Traders' Association put in measures to try and keep the areas as safe as possible.

Chairman John Senior said

"As soon as we found this was coming about, we started looking at the precautions, masks being reintroduced, spread our tables out again, we took early steps to ensure our customers feel secure.

"I think people still want to come to Scarborough, I think people still want to come to the seaside, I don't expect for us to be so badly affected unless things get worse."
