Scarborough Borough Drinkers And Pubs Urged To Be Responsible
People in the Borough of Scarborough are being urged to be responsible when going out drinking.
People in the Borough of Scarborough are being urged to be responsible when going out drinking.
It's as the Prime Minister's new Coronavirus restrictions come into effect from today.
It will see a 10pm curfew for pubs, bars and restaurants with some businesses saying they will open earlier instead.
There are fears that could result in people drinking a lot more before closing time.
Richard Webb, Director of Health and Adult Services at North Yorkshire County Council, said:
"I think we'll have to wait and see about the impact. I mean, I think it's part of an overall ethos and message about taking it seriously and showing restraint.
"It does require an effort on the part of both pubs and drinkers to show that restraint.
"This is about beginning to take individual and collective responsibility. It's about curbs on some of those things we would like to do.
"The rules about table service in pubs and staff wearing face masks, they're all important measures to try and keep people safe and secure.
"We want people to try and live an aspect of a normal life and to try and enjoy themselves.
"But actually it's about acting responsibly and drinking responsibly is part of acting responsibly.
"I don't think this intended as a charter to open very early and for people to drink as much alcohol as possible before an early closure."
