Families with children who can't sleep very well in Scarborough borough are being invited to get some advice.

The Sleep Charity is holding two online coffee mornings tomorrow (20th October) and Thursday (22nd) for parents to ask any questions. It will be from 10am until 12 noon on Zoom.

It coincides with its annual awareness campaign this week called 'Better Sleep Week'.

This is part of its 12-month contract with North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group to provide a children’s and young people’s sleep support service.

Vicki Dawson, CEO of The Sleep Charity, said:

“It’s important that we get parents and carers talking openly about sleep – the positives and the negatives – so that they feel they can get the advice and help they need from us but also support and reassurance from other families.

“Our two online coffee mornings give parents and carers in Scarborough, Whitby and parts of Ryedale the opportunity to ask any burning questions they have about their children’s sleep – whether that’s around bedtime routines, how much sleep they should be getting, nap times or even what they’re eating. All they need to do is contact us for a link, log in, grab a cuppa and a biscuit (or two) and join in the conversation.

“Our Better Sleep Week has always focused on children and sleep because we know up to 40% of children and young people will experience a sleep problem at some point in their childhood. These problems are typically persistent and do not resolve themselves without intervention.

For families in the Scarborough borough, Whitby and parts of Ryedale, the sleep service also includes providing online one to one sleep clinics and developing sleep plans with parents/carers to help address the identified sleep issue and establish a regular night-time sleep pattern. All families will have follow-up support and where needed, will be referred to primary and secondary care for any medical investigations.
