Scarborough Borough 'Doesn't Need To Be In Local Lockdown' Says Health Boss
North Yorkshire's Director of Public Health says he doesn't think Scarborough borough needs to be in a local lockdown if people follow the rule of six.
North Yorkshire's Director of Public Health says he doesn't think Scarborough borough needs to be in a local lockdown.
Dr Lincoln Sargeant says following things like the rule of six will be more beneficial.
It's as the area continues to be an 'Area of Concern' on the national Covid-19 watchlist because of a rise in coronavirus infections.
Dr Sargeant said:
"It is the last resort kind of thing. I think we can work sector by sector. So my own personal approach is we understand the dynamics of spread and we make recommendations based on the dynamic of spread.
"I'm not convinced that a lockdown would necessarily be targetting where the situation is in terms of our spread. What we need to do is interrupt household contacts, things like the rule of six.
"A lot of them are doing the right things and doing it well. Clearly if the numbers escalate to the extent that we cannot control them with these other measures, then you slam on the brakes with a local lockdown."
