Scarborough’s Covid-19 infection is continuing to rise as a decision on what Tier of restriction parts of the country will be in are set to be made today.

The borough’s seven-day infection rate is now 175 cases per 100,000 people, up from 170 yesterday after 37 new cases were added overnight.

Two weeks ago, Scarborough’s rate dropped to 121, its lowest level since early October, but has steadily climbed back up since then,

Over the last seven days, the borough averaged 27 new cases a day.

Scarborough’s rate remains below the average for England, which stands at 202.

The average rate for North Yorkshire has also risen slightly to 101 from 99.

Today, a decision will be made by the Government on the Tier restrictions and whether any areas will move up or down the alert levels.
