People coming into Scarborough for the Armed Forces Day National Event are being urged to plan ahead.

It is as rail strikes by the RMT are currently planned for that day, which affect TransPennine Express and Northern services.

It is now 11 days till thousands of visitors are expected to converge on the town.

One of the event organisers, Major John Senior, said: "Putting people to an inconvenience is unfortunately. We all definitely hope these rail strikes won't happen. One of the messages coming out from Scarborough Borough Council is if you're travelling to Scarborough please plan ahead, take time and perhaps come for the weekend, come on the Friday and have a couple of nights, enjoy the coast for longer than a day.

"Plan ahead. There's plenty of parking sites available and the Park and Ride will be operational and there are other alternative parking sites which will be available. Have a look, scope it out, plan and prepare your journey just in case these rail strikes are on.

"Please take a little bit of time and it will make your journey easier. Perhaps come for a couple of days, that would make it much easier and much more fun for those to enjoy what's going to be a fabulous weekend of activities."
