Safer Roads Humber issues reminder about Highway Code changes
They were introduced this week and drivers are being made aware of three main things
The Safer Roads Humber Partnership are reminding drivers about changes to the Highway Code.
They were introduced this week and they say there are three main things to be aware of.
Kevin Freer is from the Safer Roads Humber Partnership and said: "Pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders etc are the most vulnerable and it's up to the drivers of each vehicle to take responsibility, be courteous and look after the people who are most vulnerable.
"When turning into a junction left or right, if there's a pedestrian waiting to cross then we have to give way to those people crossing whereas before, we only had to give way if they were already crossing.
He says horse riders MUST be considered and added:
"If we're turning left or right and they're going straight on, we have to wait for them to clear the junction. It's not longer acceptable - in fact it was never acceptable - to drive infront of them and turn across their path causing them to slow down or take avoiding action."
