More people are now out of work across the Borough of Scarborough.

The jobless total stands at 3,600, which is a rise on the last three months.

In North Yorkshire, over 14,000 people are unemployed.

Anne-Marie Benson, Chief Executive of Scarborough and District Citizens Advice Bureau, said:

"People don't know where to turn and I think the thing we're worried about is when people go on the internet and search for advice, a lot of the time they're seeing pop-ups on websites and stuff saying 'oh we can help you for £50' and a lot of people are being scammed in that way.

"In some cases, people have been let go where they've worked there for years and the legal processes haven't been followed. Some employers, especially smaller employers, sometimes tend to think they can say 'right, that's it. You're done.' and it's not the case necessarily. There are processes that people have to go through for the process to be legal.

"In some cases, people might be entitled to redundancies as well and a lot of people don't necessarily know that so those are sort of the main issues. There are also issues with employers where people aren't able to work but they're being asked to go back to work or they're shielding. There's been a lot of issues coming up.

"I think furlough is currently set to end at the end of April. We are expecting another spike in that because obviously a lot of employers are putting the decision off further down the line but we don't know what it will be in that situation."
