A North Yorkshire animal rescue centre say they need to expand because of the number of people who can't afford to keep their pets.

Lily's reptile rescue centre opened a year ago in Scarborough.

Dave Bigsby is the founder and says the cost of heating tanks has gone through the roof.

"I've noticed at home as well as the business, my energy bills gone up from £3.50 a day to like £7.50 a day, everybody's feeling it."

He says they need a bigger site to help accommodate all the animals: "We've just outgrown this premises. There's a big call out there for it. I knew there was a call, but not this big."

"In the first year that we're just coming up to now that we've been open, I've literally had to shut the door twice and say sorry I can't take in, just emergencies. Obviously you find the odd bit of space here and there, but yeah, we've closed our doors twice to bringing animals in."
