Scarborough has seen another record rise in cases, after 51 have been confirmed in the borough in the past 24 hours.

It is the third time in just over a week the borough has seen a new record high in daily cases.

Scarborough’s infection rate, which last month was the lowest in North Yorkshire, now stands at 206 cases per 100,000 population on a seven-day average.

That is more than Craven, Richmondshire and Ryedale and is closing in on the averages for North Yorkshire and England as a whole, which stand at 225 and 236 respectively.

The borough’s overall total number of cases since the start of the pandemic is now 1,515.

Today, Scarborough’s new walk-in coronavirus testing site will officially open at the William Street Coach Park.

Testing at the site will be available seven days a week from 8am until 8pm and it will have the capacity for around 350 tests per day.

Appointments must be booked in advance.

Anyone who is showing coronavirus symptoms should register for a test on the NHS website, at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

People who do not have access to the internet, or who have difficulty with the digital portals, can ring the 119 service to book.

Tests can be booked at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
