Railway carriage makes road trip to Whitby area
The 'Sandsend Sleeper' is to become a holiday cottage.
A railway carriage has been making its way towards Whitby - by road.
Mulgrave Estate's new carriage has arrived at the former Sandsend station this lunchtime.
It will join the Mulgrave estate holiday cottage portfolio of luxury holiday cottages.
The carriage was built at York in 1956, it is a Mk. 1 TSO (Tourist Second Open) carriage number 4606. It left the works in the LNER livery in which it is now painted, commonly described as "blood and custard", but as it was taken back to bare metal a number of different colours were found.
They included Southern Rail and Scotrail, so she's obviously been about.
She started work on the East Coast Main Line and it's quite possible she's been to Sandsend and Whitby in the past.
She was retired to the Watercress heritage railway and was off-railed and used as a restaurant at Nutbourne, near Chichester.
