Public spaces protection order in effect in Bridlington

Variations to a public spaces protection order have been put in place in Bridlington.
Public spaces protection orders (PSPOs) assist in dealing with nuisance in relation to the control of dogs, consumption of alcohol or access to certain public areas that are detrimental to the local community’s way of life, by imposing conditions on the use of that area which apply to everyone. They are designed to ensure the law-abiding majority can use public spaces, safe from anti-social behaviour.
This variation to the Bridlington PSPO follows numerous reports of nuisance caused to local residents and visitors in a car parking area on the seafront on North Marine Drive.
The PSPO prevents people from playing music or creating noise from any device so as to cause a nuisance; driving in such a manner that is likely to cause nuisance, alarm, harassment, intimidation or distress to any other person; sounding a car horn; revving car engines; and, participating in the above activities as a driver of a vehicle, registered keeper of the vehicle or as passenger of a vehicle, or by congregating to spectate the activities listed. Anyone who ignores the order faces a fine of up to £1,000.
Nigel Brignall, manager of the anti-social behaviour team at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Public spaces protection orders are there to provide our communities with the reassurance they need that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
“The work of our Safe Communities team, together with Humberside Police, helps to ensure that we continue our great work for our residents and provide them with the protection they deserve. We want everyone to feel safe and respected within the East Riding.”
