Preparations are underway to hold a pride event in Bridlington next year.

It was due to be held this Summer but due to the pandemic it couldn't go ahead.

Businesses, groups, organisations and individuals are being urged to support the event in any way they can.

Donna Walker, Chairperson of Bridlington Pride, said:

"We planned on having a whole weekend but due to Covid obviously that has to be scaled back. We're hopefully going to be able to take the Spa over again and have local acts in which I think is something that would be fab for the town to promote the people that are from here and it's just going to be a family fun day with lots of things to do.

"As well as hopefully the main event next year, we're also hoping in-between to have kind of social events and gatherings just to make people aware that they're not alone and that there are other people out there who can help, especially in this time when we've all been locked down due to Covid.

"The majority are well on board with it and looking forward to Bridlignton Pride having a presence within the town. You're always going to get your minority and that doesn't matter where you live, but just being able to provide somewhere that is potentially safe for people because a lot of people don't feel safe where they are.

"The trans community don't feel like they can be who they are in particular and we realised this weekend that we have a contingent of around 40 trans people in Bridlington that we had no idea about so I think it's incredibly important that we're able to show that we can support the trans community, the lesbian, gay, and bi community as well".
